Igor Omerza (born 20 August 1950 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian economist, politician, and publicist. He holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Ljubljana, where he also briefly taught political economy.
In the late 1980s, Omerza was actively involved in Slovenia’s democratization movement. He was a co-founder and member of the leadership of the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, one of the key civil society organizations opposing the socialist regime.
Following Slovenia’s independence in 1991, he served as Director-General of the Služba družbenega knjigovodstva (SDK). He later became a member of the Slovenian parliament (1992–1996) and subsequently served as Deputy Mayor of Ljubljana (2003–2006).
After withdrawing from active politics, Omerza turned primarily to research and writing. He has authored nearly 30 books, focusing largely on the history of the former Yugoslav secret police (Udba) and the political dynamics of socialist Yugoslavia. His work is based on extensive archival research and has contributed to public debates about Slovenia’s recent past.

In recent years, he has been mainly devoted to writing books. So far, he has published almost 30 books, some of which can also be read in German, Croatian and English. He mostly writes about our secret communist political police. In 2016, together with journalist Bojan Požar, he published the e-book Melania Trump – The Inside Story.
